MANGA Plus, a new and free online manga site and app by Shueisha was officially launched worldwide on Monday available in English for both Android and iOS devices. China, South Korea, and Japan are not included in this launch as they already have their own similar manga reader platforms available. It was also reported a Spanish version of the service is expected to launch around February and March.

This is the first time the popular manga publishing company is expanding to direct service globally.

The service allows users to read newly released chapters from ongoing manga series from Shueisha’s Jump Square and Weekly Shonen Jump magazines, as well from the Shonen Jump+ service. The releases are simultaneous with Japan’s releases.

The app currently has 50 titles in total, which 13 completes series. More titles under Shueisha is expected to be added soon. MANGA Plus also allows you to download the chapters for free so you can read on the go and also allows you to purchase volumes for some manga titles. The first chapter and the latest chapter of the ongoing manga series are free, and a portion of the advertising revenue will go directly to the manga creators.

In an interview with Anime News Network, Shonen Jump+ editor Shuhei Hosono said that what makes MANGA Plus different from another similar service launched by Viz (Shonen Jump service) is that the app can be accessed by a lot of people around the world. VIZ’s services is only limted to Canada, United States, Ireland, Austrailia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, India, and the Philippines. Aside from this, only some specific titles are available compared to MANGA Plus where even manga titles that haven’t been released in English can also be read and accessed officially through the new platform.
