Visual Novel ‘CLANNAD’ will have a Physical Release in the West

It was announced in the official Twitter account of Limited Run Games recently that it will be shipping a physical release of the Nintendo Switch version of the visual novel CLANNAD. The company also confirmed that they will be releasing a collection edition which contains an arrange album, the game, and a visual guidebook.

To those who are interested in getting a copy, Pre-orders will start on April 14, 2020 12:00pm EDT.

It was announced by game company Prototype last year that Visual Art’s/Key’s popular visual novel CLANNAD is heading to the Nintendo Switch. Both physicial and digital copies of the game were released in Japan on July 4.

The game is confirmed to support both English and Japanese text, full touchscreen support, and a new 5.1 surround sound mix. An English Dangopedia was included same as from the previous English releases of the game. Those who purchased the limited-edition physical release will also receive a drama CD in the bundle.

CLANNAD was also ported to the PlayStation 4 last June in both Japanese and English. It was also available for the PC via Steam released by Sekai Project in November 2015 after it successfully reached the goals of its Kickstater campaign. Clannad was also been ported in previous game consoles such as the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, and smartphone devices in Japan.

The visual novel had an anime adaptation that originally aired on 2007 for 23 episode. Another anime from the franchise Clannad After Story originally aired in Japan in 2008 for 24 episodes. A two-episode OVA was also released.

About CLANNAD

Tomoya Okazaki is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he’ll never amount to anything. Along with his friend Youhei Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away.

One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Without warning she exclaims “Anpan!” (a popular Japanese food) which catches Tomoya’s attention. He soon discovers the girl’s name is Nagisa Furukawa and that she exclaims things she likes in order to motivate herself. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing.

However, Tomoya finds he is noticing Nagisa more and more around school. Eventually he concedes and befriends her. Tomoya learns Nagisa has been held back a year due to a severe illness and that her dream is to revive the school’s drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help her achieve this goal along with the help of four other girls.

As Tomoya spends more time with the girls, he learns more about them and their problems. As he attempts to help each girl overcome her respective obstacle, he begins to realize life isn’t as dull as he once thought.
