Jujutsu Kaisen Season Two Officially Announced

Every anime fan, especially those fond of shonen, has heard of Jujutsu Kaisen. The anime was released in October 2020. Its 2nd Cour in the late Winter of January 2021 has finally announced a season two this 2023. The anime gained massive popularity for its breathtaking fight scenes and dashing characters. Coming out of Studio MAPPA, it’s no wonder why the quality of work done on this anime is superb.

Based on the manga by Gege Akutami of the same name, the story revolves around Itadori Yuji. Itadori is a normal teenager who crosses paths with a cursed talisman. The talisman turns out to be a finger belonging to a powerful Curse spirit named Sukuna. After having witnessed and “consumed” Sukuna’s finger, Itadori is apprehended by Jujutsu sorcerers.

After a consensus with other high-ranking sorcerers, it was decided that Itadori would train to become one of them to fight against Curse spirits. Contained within the agreements is that Yuji Itadori functions as the vessel of Sukuna and be kept supervised. Until then, Yuji will need to master and manipulate the arts of cursed energy while enemies try to stop him from fully restoring the powerful curse, Sukuna.

As the blockbuster prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 continues to air in Japan, international fans also couldn’t wait for Crunchyroll to release the highly-anticipated animated movie on March 18 in cinemas around the United States and Canada. The anime cast expressed their support of the season two announcement on Twitter and a Yuta Okkotsu illustration from Akutami.

Where Did Jujutsu Kaisen Season One Left Off?

The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen ended on a good note. After fighting off a bunch of cursed spirits that disrupted Jujutsu Tech’s yearly competition against its sister school, fans were left wanting more.

The special grade cursed spirits were aware of Yuji’s existence and the power he holds by being Sukuna’s vessel. Now that he holds immense power, Yuji Itadori is a high-priority target for them. Cursed spirits do whatever they can to collect the king of curses’ other fingers before Yuji and his squad can.

One of the main highlights of the last episode of season one featured a Nobara and Yuji tandem against Esou and Kechizu, wherein MAPPA outdid themselves with an incredibly amazing fight sequence that fans totally loved.

Season Ending, Jujutsu Kaisen 0

After the season ended on a high note, fans began moving on to other anime, eagerly waiting for a second season. The creators behind Jujutsu Kaisen however, provided everyone with the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The film is a prequel, with events happening before the start of the anime.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 focuses on Yuta Okkotsu, a special grade cursed human who is haunted by his childhood friend Rika. Jujutsu Tech takes him in to help him train and control his special grade curse technique to free himself from Rika’s curse. The movie was first screened in Japan and gained lots of attention for its animation and interesting story. The film will slowly be available in international territories and is expected to dazzle fans all over.

What to Expect in Season Two of Jujutsu Kaisen?

There is a lot to unpack for season two of Jujutsu Kaisen. Manga readers would say that season two will bring an intense turn for the show. The anime is about to enter one of its dreadful arcs called “The Shibuya Arc,” wherein Yuji, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, and other members of the Jujutsu Tech will engage against returning Cursed spirits in a heavy battle.

There will also be featured chapters, the “Star Plasma Arc” of when Gojo Satoru and his squad, Geto Suguru and Shoko Ieri, were still in their first year as Jujutsu sorcerers of Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College. Gojo’s team is assigned to protect the vessel of the Star Plasma. However, trouble gets in their way as other special grade cursed users try to assassinate the Star Plasma vessel.

Fans are pumped for what the second season of the show has to offer, but at the same time are also anxious about what fate lies ahead for some of their favorite characters as they go through one of the most significant events of the story that could drastically affect the way the story goes.
