“Violet Evergarden” Movie Releases Virtual Meeting Backgrounds to Celebrate Sept. 18 Release

After two delays, the much-anticipated Violet Evergarden movie is now just more than a week away from its cinematic release. In celebration of the movie finally getting released soon, Kyoto Animation has released anime backgrounds from the series that fans can use for their virtual meetings. Check out the samples below!

The series’ official website also released a special commentary from the Violet Evergarden light novel author Kana Akatsuki. Their message is translated as such by Crunchyroll News as such:

“The time has come for the big journey to start at last.

The blue-eyed girl is ahead of us with her travel bag and frilly umbrella.

Is our guest well prepared?　

The work of art is finally complete when it reaches the guest, but it is not merely the end, it is just the beginning.　Someone might have their chest tighten by the tale. That’s right, it could be you, you could pass on the tale to another, like a bard, letting the creators’ love, passion, and even their breath be engraved on the world.

If it’s okay with you, please make it all “eternal.”

I wish you well on this journey.”

The film is set for a September 18 release in Japan.

Director Taichi Ishidate, who directed the anime series, returns to direct the film. Script will still be handled by Reiko Yoshida, character design and chief animation by Akiko Tase, and music will still be composed by Evan Call. The film will be taking place several years after the war that killed Gilbert Bougainvillea, the man Violet loved. As the world is slowly becoming peaceful, Violet Evergarden finds a certain letter.

First released as a light novel series written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase, Violet Evergarden  won the grand prize in the fifth Kyoto Animation Awards novel category in 2014. It was then published in 2015 by KyoAni’s publishing arm, KA Esuma Bunko, and was then subsequently adapted into a 13-episode anime series by the same studio. The anime series premiered on January 2018 in Japan and in other countries as well via Netflix. The story revolves around Violet Evergarden, a robot who was once used as a soldier in a recently-ended war. She tries to reintegrate into society by becoming an Auto Memory Doll, or robots hired by people to write for them. The series follows her in learning how to become an Auto Memory Doll, understanding the feelings of people and the world around her, and trying to comprehend her former major’s dying words to her: “I love you”.
