Promo Video Released for Studio MAPPA’s Gymnastics-Themed Original TV Anime Series “Taiso Samurai”

More sports anime coming our way, as now we get one that’s centered around gymnastics! Studio MAPPA, the animation studio behind Zombieland Saga and another original sports TV anime Yuri!!! on ICE, is now promoting the upcoming premiere of their newest original sports TV anime: Taiso Samurai. Last Thursday, the TV anime’s official Twitter account revealed a stunning first trailer of their newest sports anime, which is now centered around gymnastics. Check out the video here!

Anime News Network describes the Taiso Samurai’s story as such:

“The story is set in the year 2002 in the once powerful Japanese men’s gymnastics team. Shōtarō Aragaki, the former Japanese team member who devoted his life to gymnastics, is no longer able to compete to his expectations. Despite still training strenuously day after day, he is advised to retire by his coach Amakusa. However, a certain encounter alters Aragaki’s fate.”

Previously-announced main cast are:

·        Daisuke Namikawa (Lindel in The Ancient Magus Bride) as Shotaro Aragaki

·        Kensho Ono (Ryunosuke Akutagawa in Bungo Stray Dogs) as Leonardo

·        Yuuki Kaji (Eren Jaeger in Attack on Titan) as Tetsuo Minamino, Shotaro’s rival

·        Kenyuu Horiuchi (Wilhelm van Astrea in Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World – ) as Noriyuki Amakusa, Shotaro’s coach

·        Rina Honnizumi as Rei Aragaki (Shiragiku Omura in Tamayomi: The Baseball Girls), Shotaro’s daughter

Taiso Samurai reunites three main staff from the Zombieland Saga: Hisatoshi Shimizu as the director, Shigeru Murakoshi as the series script supervisor, and character designer Kasumi Fukugawa. Snack Mary is credited for the original story.

The other staff are:

·        Chief Animation Director: Fumihide Sai

·        Art Director: Masatoshi Kai

·        Color Key Arist: Azusa Sasaki

·        Director of Photography: Mitsuhiro Sato

·        Editing: Keisuke Yanagi

·        Music: Masaru Yokoyama

The anime series is set to air on October 10 in Japan.
