First Trailer Revealed for Anime Film “Child of Kamiari Month”

A first full trailer was recently unveiled for the Child of Kamiari Month (Kamiari no Kodomo) anime film last Saturday. You can check out the trailer here.

The film was supposedly set for a release this year, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the film’s release to 2021.

Popular TV and movie actress Aju Makita (TV movie Chibi Maruko-chan, 2018 movie Shoplifters) stars as lead character Kanna. This will be Makita’s first-ever voice acting role. She will be joined by veteran voice actress Maaya Sakamoto (Vision of Escaflowne’s Hitomi Kanzaki, Ouran High School Host Club’s Haruhi Fujioka), who will be voicing Shiro, a one-winged rabbit messenger of the gods. Another veteran voice actor, Miyu Irino (Spirited Away’s Haku, Tsubasa Reservoir CHRoNiCLE’s Syaoran), will be joining the cast as the oni boy Yasha.

Cretica Universal’s third wave of crowdfunding for the movie ended this June. The first wave of crowdfunding ran from March to May 2019, with the second wave running from July to August 2019.

Child of Kamiari Month tells the story of Kanna, a girl who has lost her love for running after her mother died. One day, a rabbit named Shiro and an oni boy named Yasha appear before her and lead her to cross the boundary between people and the gods to head to Izumo City. The film centers on the Izumo Shrine and the Kamiari myth in the region—the month of October is called in Izumo as “Kamiarizuki”, or the month of gods. This is rooted in the legend that the myriad gods of Japan gather at the Izumo Shrine during October.

The film is directed by Takana Shirai (assistant animation director for Children of the Sea), with Tetsuro Satomi (Ninja Batman) as animation producer, Tomomi Mochizuki (Ocean Waves) as storyboard writer, and Haruka Sagawa (Tada Hitotsu no Hajimari no Uta) as character designer.
