Good news to fans of Moyo-chan! Koyama Momoyo, best known as the voice & stage actress for Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight’s Aijo Karen, has announced that her vocal cord nodule surgery was a success. She reports in her official blog:
“The three-day period of not talking has ended, now I am allowed to have a conversation in a low voice for about 30 minutes! Well, I actually don’t have anyone to talk to… (laugh), I don’t even hear my own whisper. From now on, I will undergo a lot of medical examination and rehabilitation, and I will let my voice out little by little! Everything’s going well! I’m fine. Please wait a little longer. (^ ^)”
It was announced just last month that Koyama will be taking a hiatus from singing activities by the end of May. In her April 23 post in her official blog, she narrates that she has had problems with her vocal cords for three years now but has been only treating it with medicine and trips to the hospital. She notes, “When I rest, it gets a little smaller and better, but it gets worse when the schedule becomes tight.” She remarks that these situations frustrated her because she has not been able to perform with the quality she wants to. After thorough discussion with her doctor, she decided to have the surgery instead of just treating it with medicine.
She was cast as Aijo Karen in 2017. However, before playing the ditzy but headstrong Karen in Revue Starlight, Koyama is already known for playing the role of Sailor Mercury/Mizuno Ami in two Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon musicals: Petite Étrangère in 2014 and Un Nouveau Voyage in 2015. In 2018, she was cast as Haruka Shima in the cross-media project Onsen Musume, which aims to increase tourism to Japanese onsen by anthropomorphizing them. Her latest voice-acting role was in the 2020 TV anime series Interspecies Reviewers as the character Elma.
