Yes, you read that headline right: you can now raise your very own kisatsutai (Demon Slayer Corps) that will fit in the palm of your hand! Bandai has recently announced a new Tamagotchi collaboration, this time with popular shounen series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
As with other Tamagotchi collaborations, this edition offers a variety of characters for you to raise your Tamagotchi to. The Demon Slayer collab gives us a total of 13 possible character outcomes, depending on how well you raise your Tamagotchi or on what kind of training you choose to give to it.
Specifically, you can grow your Tamagotchi into either one of the 9 Hashira (Giyu, Mitsuri, Obanai, Sanemi, Gyomei, Kyojuro, Tengen, Muichiro, and Shinobu) or the four main characters (Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke).
Same with the Tamagotchis of old, you have to feed them when they’re hungry—this time with tea or rice balls, in keeping with Demon Slayer tradition. For this version, you can also train them with the three provided mini-games, and you’ll also be presented with story beats that follow the anime & manga.
The Demon Slayer Tamagotchis come in 3 color themes: Tanjiro, Nezuko, and a Demon Slayer-themed design that is exclusive only to Amazon Japan. The Tamagotchi x Demon Slayer collaboration is set to drop in stores on October 2020.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a shounen manga series written by Koyoharu Gotoge. It was first published in February 2016 in Weekly Shonen Jump up to present, with Shueisha publishing the series’ tankobon volumes. The manga’s English license is currently held by Viz Media. An anime TV adaptation by famed studio ufotable aired from April to September 2019, with a sequel film announced on the series’ last episode.
The manga’s story is described by Anime News Network as such:
“Since ancient times, rumors have abounded of man-eating demons lurking in the woods. Because of this, the local townsfolk never venture outside at night. Legend has it that a demon slayer also roams the night, hunting down these bloodthirsty demons. For young Tanjiro, these rumors will soon to become his harsh reality. Ever since the death of his father, Tanjiro has taken it upon himself to support his family. Although their lives may be hardened by tragedy, they’ve found happiness. But that ephemeral warmth is shattered one day when Tanjiro finds his family slaughtered and the lone survivor, his sister Nezuko, turned into a demon. To his surprise, however, Nezuko still shows signs of human emotion and thought. Thus begins Tanjiro’s request to fight demons and turn his sister human again.”
