As part of promotions for the just-released 3DCG anime series Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, a “Directors Interview” was recently uploaded on the Netflix Asia Youtube channel. The video features interviews with the series’ two directors, Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of the series’ production process, voice recording, and motion-capturing. Check out the video here!
The newest anime project for the Ghost in the Shell franchise was first announced in April 2017 by Kodansha and Production I.G. The 3DCG series is directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who directed the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series, and Shinji Aramaki. Aramaki has worked on the Starship Troopers: Invasion movie, as well as the 3DCG movie adaptation of Eiichi Shimizu’s ULTRAMAN manga.
SAC_2045 was released last April 23 via Netflix, with all 12 episodes of season 1 already available in the streaming platform. It was previously stated in an interview with Production I.G. USA President Maki Terashima-Furuta that the 3DCG anime will have two 12-episode seasons. According to Furuta, Kamiyama will direct one season while Aramaki will direct the other.
SAC_2045 is jointly produced by Production I.G. and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS.
Ghost in the Shell, known in Japan as Mobile Armored Riot Police (Kokaku Kidotai) is a cyberpunk science fiction manga written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. It was first published in 1989 and was eventually compiled into tankobon volumes by Kodansha. Production I.G. has produced several adaptations of Ghost in the Shell, the first being a 1995 film of the same name. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex followed in 2002 and was released as a TV anime series. Throughout the years, the franchise saw three more films, an OVA series, and a Hollywood live-action adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson.
The story revolves around Major Motoko Kusunagi, a synthetic “full-body prosthesis” augmented-cybernetic human employed as a field commander by the anti-cybercrime Public Security Section 9.
