A new teaser trailer has recently been unveiled on the official website of the anime film adaptation of popular smartphone game Tokyo 7th Sisters. The trailer revealed the film’s official title Tokyo 7th Sisters: Bokura wa Aozora ni Naru (We Will Become the Blue Sky), as well as the main staff for the film. Check out the trailer here!
According to the trailer, the film will be having a limited theatrical run this summer, but the website cautions that a postponement could happen.
The film will be directed by Takayuki Kitagawa, with Masakazu Sunagawa as the assistant director. The film will be animated by LandQ Studios and will be produced by Toei Animation. Yosuke Kikuchi is chief animation director and adapted the original designs as well by MKS. Project development was planned by Atsushi Suzuki, Yoshihide Moriyama, Kazuo Kato, and Shintaro Motegi. Motegi, who is the chief director of the smartphone game, is credited for the anime’s original concept, writing the script, and producing the music.
Both the director Takayuki Kitagawa as well as creator Shintaro Motegi posted messages regarding the film. Motegi’s statement translates to English as such:
“For six years, I have been working on Nanasis to make something brilliant. There have been many encounters during the journey, and I have been blessed with happy encounters again this time. The Nanasis expressed in animation, which I’ve wanted to see for the past few years. Through this lucky opportunity, we want to make an entertainment film that everyone can enjoy, regardless of whether they know Nanasis or not. With that in mind, I have been working hard every day with all the staff members. What is a glorious thing? I would be happy if you can feel one of the answers from the Sisters, who are doing their best brightly, energetically, and straightforward more than ever.”
Below is the message of Kitagawa translated in English as well:
“I have participated in the Tokyo 7th Sisters series that has a distinguished history while feeling the pressure. Each staff member has been working hard with Motegi-san to bring out the charm of Nanasis. ‘Pushing someone on the back.’ I think it would be wonderful if that theme could be realized with the vivid expression that animation can deliver. I’ll be excited to see you at the theater. Please look forward to the summer of 2020.”
The game was released in 2014 by game development company Donuts. Anime News Network describes the smartphone game as such:
“In the game, players take on the role of the new manager in a studio called “777” (pronounced “Three Seven”) and scout for promising young idols. The game mixes an emphasis on story and character development with a rhythm game aspect. The idols compete to win admiration from fans and develop their ability by singing original songs written by young artists "of the Vocaloid generation.”
