Over the past few years up to this point, millions of viewers hastily looked for new ways to entertain themselves.
Running out of anime to marathon this lockdown season? Well, why don’t we watch all 127 episodes of the iconic Sailor Moon series? Yes this will be possible soon, folks, as the official website of the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal the Movie has announced that the first three seasons of the 90s Sailor Moon anime will be made available for online streaming—for free—and worldwide! (Yes, not just Youtube Japan!)
The first three seasons—Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon R, and (my personal favorite!) Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon S—will be streamed via the franchise’s official Youtube channel starting on April 24, with 10 episodes to be available for streaming each week. This streaming party is part of promotions for the upcoming release of the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal the Movie—actually the first of two parts, since it was announced that the project will be composed of two movie releases. The first three seasons were chosen to be streamed because the upcoming movie will be adapting the manga’s “Dead Moon” arc, which was adapted into the fourth Sailor Moon season (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon SuperS).
The first movie is set for a September 2020 release, with no release date announced yet for the second movie. Toei announced that they will be co-producing the films with Studio DEEN. Chiaki Kon, who directed the third season of Sailor Moon Crystal (which critics deemed an improvement from the first two seasons) will be returning to direct the two films. Character design will be done by Kazuko Tadano, who is credited for the same role in the original anime. The script will be penned by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, with the manga’s author herself Naoko Takeuchi serving as supervisor to the movies.
