Congratulations are in order for Natsuki Hanae and Aoi Koga, as the two voice actors take home the two major awards from the prestigious 14th Annual Seiyuu Awards! For this year’s event, no awards ceremonies were held to prevent and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. Instead the winners were announced during the Chou! A&G web radio program.
First off, the Best Lead Actor Award is given to none other than Natsuki Hanae. His most recent role is Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, but his other notable roles include Ken Kaneki in Tokyo Ghoul and Masamune Makabe in Masamune-kun’s Revenge.
The Best Lead Actress Award, on the other hand, is given to Aoi Koga for her role as Kaguya Shinomiya in Kaguya-sama: Love is War. Unlike Hanae who already has an extensive voice acting portfolio, Koga is fairly new to the industry, having just started voice-acting in 2015.
The Rookie Actor Award is shared among five voice actors: Takeo Otsuka (Ryusei Midorigaoka in Dimension High School), Gakuto Kajiwara (Shinra Kusakabe in Fire Force), Kotaro Daigo (Hodaka Morishima in Weathering With You), Katsumi Fukuhara (Yukiya Araki in W’z) and Shogo Yano (Mafuyu Sato in given).
Likewise the Rookie Actress Award is shared, but this time among six new seiyuu: Madoka Asahina (Asumi Kominami in We Never Learn: BOKUBEN), Miho Okasaki (Teruko in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba), Miyuri Shimabukuro (Carole Stanley in Carole & Tuesday), Sayumi Suzushiro (Uruka Takemoto in We Never Learn: BOKUBEN), Ai Fairouz (Hibiki Sakura in How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift?), and Nana Mori (Hina Amano in Weathering With You).
