Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cast Reunite After a Long Time

For today’s dose of nostalgia: heads up to all Sailor Moon fans, especially those who watched the anime’s memorable live-action adaptation, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon! The five actresses who played the Sailor Senshi recently got together, with Sailor Venus actress Ayaka Komatsu uploading their group photo. Check it out below!

For all the young ones there, pictured from left to right are: Ayaka Komatsu (Sailor Venus), Miyuu Sawai (Sailor Moon), Keiko Kitagawa (Sailor Mars), Rika Izumi/Chisaki Hama (Sailor Mercury), and Mew Azama (Sailor Jupiter). The Instagram caption states that while she always meets up with the other actresses, it was always separately and not as a group, and that this is the first time in a long while since all five of them got together. Komatsu also says that the five of them met up for Meat Day on April 29 (the pronunciation of the number 29, “ni-kyuu” is similar to the Japanese word for meat, “niku”).

She then talked about how close they all were, treating each other as more like childhood friends instead of just being industry friends. It was also quite obvious that they all enjoyed their get-together, as Komatsu wrote that, “Even though I took a lot of pictures, I laughed too much and made the photos almost blurry.” Which is totally adorable and warms my heart.

The Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon live-action adaptation aired from October 4 2003 to September 25, 2004. The live-action TV series was produced by Toei Company and had a total of 49 episodes and 2 special episodes. The TV series tackles the first arc of the Naoko Takeuchi’s manga, whose main antagonist is Queen Beryl, ruler of the Dark Kingdom. She takes orders from the amorphous dark energy Queen Metaria, who aims to suck energy from hapless human beings so that they can take over Earth. The TV series incorporated some significant changes in its plotline, however, which set it apart from the manga and anime—an example would be Minako/Sailor Venus moonlighting as a pop idol besides being Sailor V.
