The Adorable Platelets from Cells at Work Get Their Own Spinoff Manga

Good news to fans of Cells at Work: the series’ cutest characters—the Platelets, of course—are getting their own spinoff manga! The June issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine has announced that these adorable anthromorphized cells will be getting a spinoff manga entitled Hataraku Kesshoban-chan (Platelets at Work). The spinoff manga will be written by Yuuko Kakihara, the same person who wrote the script for the anime series. The manga will be illustrated by Yasu, who is most known for illustrating the Toradora! light novel series.

Check out the official announcement below, which comes with an all-new illustration of the cute Platelets!

The announcement above also says that Hataraku Kesshoban-chan will be launched in Monthly Shonen Sirius’ next issue, which will be out on May 25.

Written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu, Cells at Work was first serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius in 2015. It features the anthromorphized cells of the human body, with the story mostly told from the perspective of a clumsy but lovable Red Blood Cell along with her reliable friend Neutrophil, who almost always ends up saving her from pathogens. The series depicts their daily activities and respective responsibilities as cells in the human body. The series’ first season produced by David Productions aired from July to September of last year. It was directed by Kenichi Suzuki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Drifters) with Yuuko Kakihara (Persona 4 the Animation) in charge of series composition. The script was collaborated on by both Suzuki and Kakihara. Its success among fans had led to a stage play adaptation that ran last November, and a mobile game entitled Itsudemo Hataraku Saibou. Last March, David Productions has announced that the anime series will be getting a second season.

With the Platelets getting their own manga, we only have one request: Don’t lewd the platelets. :P
