Fresh Details, Trailer Revealed for Persona 5 The Royal

A previous article in this website reported Atlus’ promise of revealing new details about the much-hyped Persona 5 The Royal at the Persona Super Live 2019 Concert… and boy, did good ol’ Atlus deliver well.

To get things started, watch the spanking-new three-minute trailer for Persona 5 The Royal, which was unveiled at the end of the live concert. Check it out below!

Yours truly is not much of a Japanese expert, but we can break down the elements revealed in the video.

First off, we see that a new area is added to the map—a place called Kichijoji, where you can roam around and engage in social activities. Besides Kichijoji, a new date place—the aquarium—is also added.

Players can also busy themselves with new activities such as playing billiards and darts in a new bar (thank goodness there are more options other than taking on the Big Bang Burger Challenge. Lol) which most likely will help improve one’s attributes (proficiency and charm, maybe?).

Other new features (that we didn’t know we needed) are also added to the game, such as being able to send—wait for it—selfies using the instant messaging system in-game. As seen in the trailer, Royal will be featuring enhanced visuals and all-new animation for battle sequences—did you catch Makoto throwing those super-fast fists? The game will also support PlayStation 4 Pro.

Perhaps the biggest addition to Royal is the new female character, Kasumi Yoshizawa (who is voiced by Sora Amamiya). As of now, it appears that she is not a playable female MC as most have wished, as she is described in the game’s official site as such:

A new girl who’s just transferred into Shujin Academy the same spring the protagonist transferred there. Since the age of junior high, she’s got excellent score as an acrobatic contestant, and she is expecting the future days at Shujin Academy. She loves the protagonist, but she seems to dislike the stuff about the Phantom Thieves… ? Foe, or ally — Please look forward to more upcoming reports.

The game will be adding in the Phantom Thieves’ third semester in Shujin Academy. A new confidant character named Takuto Maruki (voiced by Satoshi Hino) was also added. He is a part-time school counselor at Shujin, and his arcana is Le Consultant.

Persona 5 The Royal is set for a October 31, 2019 release in Japan. Fans outside of Japan will have to wait longer, however, as Atlus has announced that the game will be released to the west & other territories sometime in 2020. Well, I guess it’s time to play the game again. wink
