Last year it was announced that animation studio 8-bit is collaborating on a new original anime series entitled Hoshiai no Sora (Star-Crossing Skies) with famed Escaflowne director Kazuki Akane. A few days ago, the anime’s official website has released a new visual and an announcement that Hoshiai no Sora is slated for an October release this year.
The anime series is described as a coming-of-age story of two boys, who become double tennis partners just as their junior high school soft tennis club is closing down. Club member Toma Shinjo asks fellow student Maki Katsuragi to join the team in time for the summer competition. Described as a “life-sized story of youth”, Akane’s original anime will explore the thoughts and feelings of the two main characters who will bond together through soft tennis.
You can check out the anime’s PV below:
Toma Shinjo will be voiced by Tasuku Hatanaka (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress’ Ikoma) while Maki Katsuragi will be voiced by Natsuki Hanae (Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc’s Yuna D. Kaito).
Kazuki Akane is in charge of directing the anime, as well as supervising and writing the script. Original character designs were done by illustrator Itsuka, with Yuichi Takahashi adapting these designs for the anime. Flying Dog is in charge of the music, with instrumental band jizue composing the soundtrack.
