New Trailer Released for “Sound! Euphonium the Movie: Oath’s Finale”

Kyoto Animation has recently released a new PV for the newest Sound! Euphonium movie entitled Oath’s Finale (Chikai no Finale). Check out the trailer below:

In the PV we get to see familiar faces such as Natsuki and Yuuko, who are now both third years and are now the vice-president and the president of the Kitauji Concert Band Club, respectively. We also get to see Mizore and Nozomi, who had their own spin-off movie, Liz and the Blue Bird, which was released last year. Even the former band seniors make an appearance, such as fan-favorite Asuka—to whom, if you can all remember, Kumiko confessed her feelings to at the end of season 2 (whether those feelings are sisterly or romantic has always been up for debate).

Of course the trailer shows us lead characters Kumiko Oumae and Kousaka Reina, who are now both second years. Kumiko appears to be having a hard time with the freshmen band members. With this new predicament in the Kitauji Band, will they be able fulfill their dream of finally winning gold at the nationals?

One scene in particular has fans reeling—from anger or happiness, you can take your pick. Kumiko’s childhood friend Shuichi was shown grabbing her hand, his face all serious. Is this a confession scene?? gasps

And perhaps to appease (or infuriate) fans, this was immediately followed by a scene showing Reina feeding Kumiko apple candy. [cue angry mob shouting, “Yuri bait! Yuri bait!”]

It must be remembered, of course, that Shuichi and Kumiko are canon in the light novels. There’s no denying, however, that the anime adaptation gave more focus on Kumiko and Reina’s relationship. [shrugs]

Whichever side of the ship you wish to take, make sure to check out Sound! Euphonium the Movie: Oath’s Finale, which is set for an April 19 release in Japan.
