After collaborations with idol franchise PRINCE OF LEGEND and tokusatsu series Kamen Rider, the Matsuno sextuplets are back with another surprise collaboration! This time, it’s with popular shonen anime Black Clover. The collaboration, which was announced on both franchise’s official websites, is part of the promotions for the new Osomatsu-san film, which hit Japanese theaters last Friday.
The collaboration campaign released the crossover visual below featuring the stars of both franchises. Both characters are also wearing the clothes of the other, with Asta wearing Osomatsu’s characteristic red sweater and the latter donning Asta’s black garb.
In addition, the Matsuno brothers were also announced to be making a special appearance in Black Clover’s 76th episode, which will air on March 26 in Japan. Whether the mischievous sextuplets will be doing significant cameo roles or be simply in the background of the episode is yet to be seen.
Osomatsu-san is based on Fujio Akatsuka’s 1962 manga series. This adaptation by Studio Pierrot follows the Matsuno sextuplets as adults, and how they go about their daily adult lives as NEETs (not in education, training, or employment). The series regularly features adult humor, with the brother’s diverse personalities seen as one of the show’s charms. Its first season aired from October 2015 to March 2016, while the second season aired from October 2017 to March 2018. The franchise’s newest film, Eiga no Osomatsu-san (simply Osomatsu-san the Movie) premiered in Japan last March 15.
On the other hand, Black Clover is based on Yuki Tabata’s manga series of the same name, which is still being serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The story revolves around orphan boy Asta, who has no magic powers despite everyone in his world having such. Despite his incapability to use magic, he aims to become the next Wizard King.
