Anime Boston Guests City Hunter Staff, Kingdom Hearts Composer

Some weeks ago Anime Boston announced that composer Yoko Shimomura, best known for composing the score for the Kingdom Hearts franchise, will be appearing in the convention once more. This year marks Shimomura’s second guesting in Anime Boston, with the first being in 2015.

Today Anime Boston has just announced the second wave of guests, and it will be none other than the staff for the Japanese blockbuster hit City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes. Director Kenji Kodama, producer Naohiro Ogata, and scriptwriter Yoichi Kato were confirmed to grace this year’s convention.

Kodama directed the City Hunter anime series, and is also credited for directing the series and films for the first six years of Detective Conan. His more recent directorial works were Kekkaishi and Tales of the Abyss, which were both released in the 2000s.

Producer Naohiro Ogata first joined Sunrise in 1997, and has produced several Gundam projects for the company such as Mobile Suit Gundam NT, Mobile Suit Gundam UC, and Gundam Reconquista in G. He also produced Tales of the Abyss, Inuyasha the Final Act and most recently the Shinjuku Private Eyes movie.

Yoichi Kato, the movie’s scriptwriter, first started out as a writer for TV documentaries and news programs before shifting to anime. He worked on titles such as Yo-kai Watch, Aikatsu, and Space Brothers.

City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes premiered in Japan on February 8. Based on the original manga by Tsukasa Hongo, City Hunter has been adapted into four anime TV series, three TV specials, and several video games and films, with the latest being Shinjuku Private Eyes. The film is a success in Japan, grossing over 1 billion yen since its release.

Anime Boston will happen on April 19-21 at the Hynes Convention Center.
