Hello Kitty to Return to TV Screens in 2021

Sanrio’s iconic character, Hello Kitty, is set to star in a new TV series. On February 6 the company announced that its beloved character will star in a new TV series entitled The World of Hello Kitty. The series will be produced by French animation studio Monello Productions and is set to run for 52 episodes, with each episode running for 11 minutes. It is slated for a Q1 2021 release.

Watch Next Media’s subsidiary Kids First will be handling worldwide financing and distribution of the series worldwide. ABC International, the international arm of Asahi Broadcasting Corporation, will handle distribution and promotions in Asia.

The World of Hello Kitty is described as such:

“The World of Hello Kitty will feature the famous titular character along with her friends from the Sanrio universe as they try to live in harmony in their not-so-quiet neighbourhood. Kitty’s friends are all very different and they each have their little quirks, so their tight-knit community is often put to the test. But at the end of the day, Kitty always brings them back together, because she accepts her friends for who they are.”

Designed by Yuko Shimizu for Sanrio, Hello Kitty was first included in the company’s character line-up in 1974. Undeniably Sanrio’s most popular character, Hello Kitty has gone on to become a pop culture phenomenon and one of the most recognizable icons to ever come out of Japan. It has gone on to appear in several TV shows, the first being Hello Kitty’s Furry Tail Theater which first aired in 1987.
