Anime Project ‘Twilight’ to Air on May 24

The official website for the original anime project Twilight (Hakubo) by Yutaka Yamamoto released an update on Friday that it will have its official debut in Japan on May 24 at the Porepore Cinemas Iwaki Onahama in Fukushima prefecture. It will also have screenings in other places in Fukushima prefecture before having a larger countrywide release.

The cast for this anime include Hiyori Sakurada as Sachi Koyama and Seichiro Kato as Yusuke Kijinami. Other new cast members mentioned are Ayane Sakura, Hiro Shimono, Kaori Fukuhara, Kana Hanazawa, Sora Amamiya, and Sumi Shimamoto.

The production of this anime was made possible THROUGH a crowdfunding campaign which successfully met its goal of 15 million yen back in April 2017. It’s expected for release in 2018 but then delayed to 2019.

The anime follows young individuals living in “the now and present” in Iwaki City, Fukushima after the earthquake and tsunami that hit Tohoku in March 11, 2011.

Yamakan (Yamamoto) says that this anime will be the last of his self-described “Tohoku trilogy” set in Japan’s Tohoku region. His other works in this “trilogy” were blossom (set in Otsuchi, Iwate Prefecture) and Wake Up, Girls! (set in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture).
