The 12th Manga Taisho Awards is upon us and its executive committee has officially unveiled the following nominated titles on Monday. The said awarding is also known for its official English name “Cartoon Grand Prize”.
The nominating committee is composed of mainly bookstore staffers who manage their respective manga stores. The committee this year consisted of 94 individuals who made their top choices from around 247 titles.
It’s also noted that manga series that were released in 2018 and have around eight volumes or less are qualified to be nominated for the awards. This volume was added intentionally so that the winning titles will be on newer works that still have not really reach maximum popularity yet. The second round of voting will determine the winner for this year’s award.
The awarding ceremony of Manga Taisho 2019 will be held around late March or early April.
