Synopsis
Xiaxi hasn’t had the best of luck with her love life. Due to her uninteresting personality and plain looks, her boyfriend breaks up with her. Even when she takes solace in online gaming and embraces an identity as a beautiful “goddess” she ends up burned by her online boyfriend who exposes her real self on forums. Unable to take the heartbreak and the resulting bullying online, Xiaxi commits suicide.
When she wakes up, she finds herself not only in a new world but placed within a “Goddess Creation System.” She is tasked with earning “charisma points” by charming male targets and make use of tools and guides provided by the system. If she does not complete the mission, however, well, there is more to this tale than a young woman finding a chance at becoming more beautiful and charming males.
The Good
Initially, you would think that the series would present a female lead getting a second chance and receiving good fortune. Instead, the series gives an interesting look on the darker look at the “system” aspect. In addition, it also introduces an engaging protagonist with the way Xiaxi is shaped by not only her previous life but what the system has made her go through. It’s also interesting to see how Xiaxi works things out to be in her favor; showing herself as a different sort of protagonist who, with her manipulative aspect, would usually be either an antagonist or shadow type character. The series really leaves an impact with the little surprises that it gives with both the story and the characters.
On the note of the characters, the male targets also hold an interesting note to them. More than being cute in how they end up falling for Xiaxi, their continuity in character growth throughout the story gives a plus to the series. Event the supposed female rivals shown throughout the series were fun in a way, especially the one that turned out to be in love with someone outside the household and managed to escape with Xiaxi’s help. Simply put, the way the series presents different layers to certain characters makes a highlight to enjoy.
The Bad
It is with the more recent story arcs that the minus points of the series began to crop. With the way that the story is going, it feels like things are getting a tad convoluted. On one hand, it connects the male characters to one another. On the other, it feels like the story is heading to a different direction than its meant and seems to have a lesser focus on Xiaxi. Perhaps it’s a personal perspective but it is one of the only things that really stands as a possible minus for the series.
Conclusion
This is the kind of series that shows how layering a character can add different things the story. It does well in presenting the different aspects of its concepts and shows some solid character continuity. There might be some over complication with the plot at some points but other than this, there isn’t that much of a problem with the series that really stands. It’s a story with a different female protagonist and an engaging concept.
