A Megumi Spinoff Manga is Announced for the Magical Angel Creamy Mami Anime

An official spin-off manga is announced for the “Magical Angel Creamy Mami” anime and it is set to launch on December 21 on Coamix’s manga website Comic Tatan.

Titled as “Mahō no Tenshi Creamy Mami Fukigen na Ohime-sama”/“Magical Angel Creamy Mami: Sullen Princess”, the spin-off will be illustrated by Ami Mitsuki and new chapters will debut every first and third Friday of the month.

Starring in the manga is an idol singer named Megumi Ayase. Recognized as the top star at Mami’s talent agency Parthenon Productions, she is rude to Mami as she joins the agency. This is due to her being jealous of her and seeing herself as Mami’s rival. From this, the manga takes on Megumi’s idol life as she tries to be a good senior at work to Mami.

Along with the announcement of the manga, the staff has revealed visuals for the series.

“Magical Angel Creamy Mami” is a magical girl anime that made its debut in 1983 under the production of Pierrot. The series ran for a year and had a total of 52 episodes. During its run, a three-volume manga was released with Kazunori Itō as the writer and Yuuko Kitagawa as the illustrator. Following the anime, there were a variety of OVAs that were inspired within the 80s.

The anime was the first of five magical girl anime to be produced by Studio Pierrot. It was directed by Osamu Kobayashi, the director of the “Kakkun Cafe” film and written by Kazunori Itō who worked on the “.hack//SIGN” anime.

The story of the series tells of Yuu, a 10-year-old who gains magical abilities after encountering a spaceship. Together with 2 cats, Poji and Nega who watch over and guide her, she makes use of her powers to become idol Creamy Mami. With her new identity, Yuu works hard at acting, singing, helping her parents at their crepe shop while also fighting aliens and bad guys, going to school, plus trying to get the affections of her childhood friend Toshio.
