A Special Episode for the Cells at Work! Anime Arrives in December

The adventures of “Cells at Work!” continues as a special episode is announced and set to premiere in December of 2018.

Titled as “Common Cold Syndrome”, it will be featuring a Normal Cell who has grown tired of his daily work (cell division). He one day meets a mysterious cell wearing a cool hat, and the new cell convinces him to play some pranks on White Blood Cell (Neutrophil) and Killer T Cell. Having grown frustrated with the daily grind of his job, Normal Cell happily agrees though knows nothing of the new cell.

The episode as stated is set for the month of December. It will be taking the 24: 30-time slot (actually on Thursday morning at 12:30 AM JST) on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11 on December 24. And will have additional broadcasts to follow on Mainichi Broadcasting System, TV Aichi, Hokkaido Broadcasting, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, and AT-X.

“Cells at Work!” a.k.a. “Hataraku Saibou” was first released as a manga series written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu. The series was launched in March 2105 and is serialized in Kodansha’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Sirius. The manga is still at work and currently has around 5 volumes released along with two spin-offs.

The anime adaptation of the series made its debut in July 2018 and ran until September 2018 with a total of 13 episodes. The series was directed by Kenichi Suzuki who worked on “Drifters” and written by Yuuko Kakihara. As for the characters, the general designs were done by Takahiko Yoshida while Kenta Mimoru worked on the cell designs.

The story of the series sets within the human body and features anthropomorphic cells. Every day these cells are hard at work every day within a world that is the human body. From the Red Blood Cells delivering oxygen to different parts of the body to White Blood Cells battling and killing off bacteria, every cell works their best to keep their world safe. Featured in this tale is a red blood cell, and a neutrophil she frequently encounters.
