A Light Novel Recommedantion: "The Villainess Is Being Doted on by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Country"

Synopsis

Tiararose had been meant to be disregarded and exiled from the country. This was something the young woman realized upon realizing that she had been reincarnated as the villainous daughter character of an otome game she had played. Now she faces the choice of awaiting judgment, though she has no recollection of doing anything too cruel, and going through the ending of the game. Even when going to her judgement, however, rather than ending up as the character did in the game, a surprising thing happens instead. The prince of a neighboring country steps forward and proposes to her.

Thoughts on the Story and Characters

Do you know those couples in stories that are really sweet but feel like they need to communicate more? No? Well, this is what this series gives. There was a good introduction to the romance with how the prince basically swooped in and saved the damsel. And the affection between the two is rather cute for a lot of chapters. The problem is that there doesn’t seem to be a proper development between the two. It’s understandable how they began to have feelings but for the rest of the story, it feels as if it’s taking more focus on other aspects and not so much on their romance.

On that note, the other aspects of the story are rather interesting. The whole ark with the supposed “heroine” was a surprise given how in similar stories they either fade in the background or end up in a not so happy situation. For the character type to not only receive punishment but also retaliate in the most unexpected way made for a nice change of pace. Add it with her not ending up as a complete enemy of the protagonist, well that just adds more unique points for the story.

Currently, the series is going through the fairy king arc from what this writer is able to find in translations. Again, it makes for an interesting part of the story but one, it feels more like it’s taking away from the main couple and two, it feels like it’s straying things into a completely different story than what it began with. Simply put, it’s introducing interesting factors into the story that both do and do not fit.

Character-wise, there isn’t much that stands out with them. Initially, they’re rather cute in their dynamics but other than this, Tiara is the typical low self-esteem female lead who doesn’t speak out all that much and Aqua is the possessive yet doting male lead. The side characters actually have more given to them than the leads and it’s a little disappointing development wise. Still, given that the series is listed with a hundred chapters and there are only 38 chapters accessible translated chapters, there is still room for them to grow.

Should you Read it?

If you’re looking for a romance story with interesting fantasy aspects yes. However, if you’re looking for a romance series that continuously develops the relationship of the main couple? You may want to look somewhere else. The main characters are cute but they need more development to really be interesting and step out of their character roles. What does make the series interesting is that it takes a turn with different characters and arcs. Exploring aspects of magic that make it unique and introducing interesting characters to move the story. Though it feels like it’s shifting the story rather than moving it.
