“Liz and the Blue Bird” is one of the two films released for the “Sound! Euphonium” series. It premiered on April 21 and is directed by Naoko Yamada, the director behind “A Silent Voice” film. The screenplay of the film was done by Reiko Yoshida and the character designs by Futoshi Nishiya. As for the music, it is composed by Kensuke Ushio.
The film tells the story of third-year students and best friends Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki. Mizore is a shy and soft-spoken girl who plays the oboe and is dependant on the outgoing Nozomi, who plays the flute. As the band prepares for nationals and the two for graduation Mizore grows depressed as her separation from Nozomi draws near. Coincidentally enough, the band is assigned to play a piece based on a German fairy tale called “Liz and the Blue Bird,” another story in which two friends must bid each other farewell.
