3 Episode Impression: "Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken"

Synopsis

37-year-old human Satoru Mikami was a simple office worker who had grown despondent from the way his life turned out. However, upon being stabbed by a robber, he finds himself reincarnating into a new world as a slime monster of all things. Now with this new form, Satoru, who soon ends up as Rimuru Tempest sets off in his new life with unique abilities in tow.

The Good

The factor that the main protagonist ends up as a different sort of creature and had to learn to level up while not meeting any “fated girls” is the first step into something different for the series. It takes on different elements in the introduction of the character from showing how they ended up the way they did to how Satoru has to learn to adapt and grow in the cave area, Simply put, there were a lot strong introduction points to be found in the first to third episodes with the first being the strongest.

Other than the story development, the inquisitiveness and awkwardness of the main character is a plus for the series. The way he connects with the other monster characters has a cute quality to it and the whole naming concept really adds a unique touch to the series. What’s more, the general aspect of Rimuru’s abilities made for a big highlight of the series. Basically, the fantasy aspects and the development towards it makes for a highly strong point for the series.

The Bad

With the first episode, there wasn’t much to be said against the series. However, towards the second and third episode, there are points that could have worked out better. For one thing, Rimuru’s general personality doesn’t feel as concrete as it does for those who have read the manga. Perhaps it was how things turned out with the adaptation by the aloof nature of the character doesn’t balance well enough with his strategic/intellectual side. It might be from a personal perspective but for someone who read the manga, the difference is there, it’s not big, but it’s there.

Conclusion

This is a fantasy series that a step out of the box but may need to develop on certain character points. The fantasy and world-building element are certainly interesting especially with how Rimuru basically has an AI guiding him along with the naming concept. His personality though seems like it needs a bit more balancing but it’s a personal opinion. Overall this is truly an isekai story that for real does something different in terms of both characters and story.
