Synopsis
Ruri Midorikawa was a simple college woman who wanted one thing. And that was to escape from the shadow of her best “frenemy,” Asahi Shinomiya. Though Asahi comes off as cheerful and kind, she has unintentionally made Ruri’s life miserable. Now to add on top of everything, she ends up being summoned alongside her to another world. Seeing as how the summoners believe Asahi to be what they’re looking for and due to certain circumstances, Ruri finds herself banished into the forest. While this seems like a bad end for her, it may have instead led her to a boon
The Good
With a title and premise like this, it can be expected that there would be one or two silly elements and generic in the story. However, the way that these elements were used, from the way the protagonist ended up banished to her being something of an underdog was handled rather well. Her character is certainly different and has a refreshing touch to it and again, the way generic trope of her being OP was handled rather nicely and with a touch of good humor too.
The other character she meets such as the fairies and the witch of the forest also have their interesting point. The fact that the fairies look so cute but actually had a vicious side was a fun little point for them. While there is a lot of hilarity to be found in the series, it does have its heartfelt moments here and there along with a touch of mystery slipped in.
The Bad
The comedy of the series is good, but it would be nice to see more expansion on other aspects of the series such as the heartwarming moments, the mystery and the character development. Simply put, it’s all well and they handle the generic tropes but there could have been more explored outside of poking fun at the cliche of the hero being both blessed and gifted in magic. Outside of how the comedy works though, there isn’t much that stands out as an issue with the series. It all depends on how the latest arc covering her entering the palace as a cat will be handled.
Conclusion
It’s a fun isekai series that has a good amount of comedy mixed in with some interesting world building and just of a pinch of mystery. Clearly, the series is expanding on its comedy and how it pokes at the OP protagonist cliche given how strong a point it is. However, it would be nice to see more done with the low-key and heartfelt moments to balance things out. Overall the series is an enjoyable ride with minor flaws which would depend on where it decides to go
