"The Sneaker Legend" Magazine Includes a Haruhi Suzumiya Newly-Written Short Novel in a Special Issue

Coming on October 31, 2018, is a special issue of Kadokawa’s bimonthly light novel magazine The Sneaker. Titled as “The Sneaker Legend”, the magazine is being reissued in part of a project to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the light novel imprint Sneaker Bunko.

A special feature of the issue is the reappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya as a new short story titled, “Nanafushigi Overtime” (Seven Wonders Overtime) and done by original novel author Nagaru Tanigawa will be included. Spanning the length of about 120 pages of Japanese writing paper, a cover image was also released along with the announcement, it features Haruhi Suzumiya as drawn by the Haruhi novel’s official illustrator Noizi Ito and Aqua by the “KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!!” novel’s illustrator Kurone Mishima.
It was between April 1993 and April 2011 that the Haruhi Suzumiya series became one of the magazine’s popular serialization titles. The last that was reported on the series was the release of the novel’s series two-part installment, “The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya” which was in May 2011.

The first time that the series made its appearance was in 2003 as a series of light novels written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito. Initially, the series began with the novel The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and was then followed by ten additional volumes. Following this, the series gained an anime adaptation, four manga series, an animated film, two original net animation series and several video games.

The main story of the series tells of a North High School student named Kyon. Once a typical high school, he finds things taking a complete flip upon meeting Haruhi Suzumiya. An eccentric schoolgirl who aims to find the supernatural, she ends up dragging into the creation of the “SOS Brigade” (“Spreading excitement all Over the world with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade”) to investigate mysterious events.

Soon enough, she recruits three other members, the laconic bibliophile Yuki Nagato, the shy and timid Mikuru Asahina, and the unflappable transfer student Itsuki Koizumi. However, not all is as it seems as the three reveal to Kyon they are in fact supernatural beings who have been sent by their respective secret organization to observe Haruhi.

Apparently, the high school girl possesses extraordinary warping powers. In order to prevent her from finding out about said powers and using it, Kyon and the others make sure to stop her from being bored enough to imagine a new world. Because if she does, they and their organizations fear that this would destroy the current world.
