Different But Still Sweet: "A Demotion Isn't That Bad"

Synopsis

While considered as a brilliant soldier even with his inflexible ways, Ulises finds himself shunned by the top brass and ends up being demoted to a station in a rural area where he meets his new wife Lea. Though a demotion usually means a poor end, this may turn out as a blessing in disguise for the soldier. Now with a new wife and her siblings to welcome Ulises into the family, he may have found something he didn’t expect in this new life.

The Good

Usually, when it comes to light-hearted stories that have soldier characters, their job isn’t all that much shown. Here, we actually see the main character in his main element without getting too gritty. What’s more, for soldier characters who end up getting married, it seems as if their characters make a flip. With this series, we actually see the character’s development without causing a large shift to his personality. Outside of the solid character development, the general tone and flow of the story were well-done.

On Lea and her family’s side of things, she was a soft tone character but the way she dealt with her new life with Ulises has a cute point to it. That and the way her brothers all have a hand in the development of the soldier was a nice use of their characters.

The Bad’

Though there was a fantasy label tagged to the series, there isn’t anything that really signifies this and what’s more, the entirety of the series was a rather low tone. It fluctuated to suit the flow of the plot but there wasn’t any real dynamic shown in the telling of the story other than short bursts of slight drama. Even the dynamics and the relationship development between the main characters held a low tone as soft as it may be. Then there is just the way that very little is shown on Lea other than as the devoted housewife of a soldier.

Conclusion

There’s no other way to describe the series other than as a soft work with a touch of bursts here and there. It has cute characters and a steadily paced development but not much is explored on most of them, most especially Lea and the dynamics could use some work. It has some small hooks to it in terms of character presentation and perspective, but it doesn’t seem much. Basically, it’s the type of story you read once and you’re good.
