What We See so Far - "Jishou Akuyaku Reijou na Konyakusha no Kansatsu Kiroku"

Synopsis

Being as brilliant as he is crown prince Cecil soon finds himself bored with life given how easy everything comes to him. One day, things take an interesting turn for him as his fiancée Bertia suddenly said: “Prince Cecil, I am a villainess!” Apparently, she remembers her past life as a person from another world and claims that this world is the same as that of an “otome game” that she used to play. Now she has been reborn as the villainess character she aims to play her part well and have their engagement annulled. Thus begins the tale of an aspiring villainess and a two-faced prince.

The Good

This is a series that truly takes a refreshing change of pace by having the perspective be from the prince rather than Bertia. More than having the secondary star in an isekai type story for a change, the type of character that Cecil also makes for an interesting point of the series. Usually, his type of scheming and two-faced personality would have him a low-key secondary character or villain. To have him as the protagonist of the series alone makes for a strong hook.

While Cecil makes for a strong protagonist, Bertia still makes for an interesting deuteragonist. The way that she is so earnest over her role while also being easily flustered by the prince makes her endearing. What’s more, she does a solid job as an expository/guide type of character on possible events.

The Bad

So far, the most prominent issue of the series is that it has a bit of a fast pace going on. For every chapter, it seems like something new is introduced and while it does make for a solid framework for the beginning portion of the story, it leaves little breathing room for the reader. What’s more, it seems that certain components that were introduced are left hanging. Clearly, there is a slow set-up being placed but the layout could have been done better.

Conclusion

This is a real series that takes a step out of the box in the isekai genre. From the different protagonist to the endearing deuteragonist, there’s plenty of hooks to be found with the series. As stated, the only issue so far is in the pacing but even then it shows that there is a solid brickwork for future events. Overall, there’s a strong potential for this series and is definitely something to check out and follow.
