Starting the 44th issue Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, the “Detective Conan” manga will be taking a break. According to the 43rd issue of the magazine, the series will be entering into a nine-week hiatus so that creator Gosho Aoyama may conduct research. The hiatus will end upon the release of the magazine’s 53rd issue.
It was on August 29 that the series recently ended a hiatus that began on July 11. Like with the current hiatus to occur, the previous hiatus was so the creator could conduct research. The series is no stranger to hiatuses. One of the longest hiatus to occur for the series was in December 2017 and it had ended in April 2018.
The “Detective Conan” manga was first released in 1994 and is serialized in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. As of August, the series has become the first to publish its 1,000th chapter in the magazine. Currently, there are more than ninety volumes release with the 94th volume having been released last December.
From the manga came an anime adaptation that released in January 1996. Other than an anime, the series also has a number of animated feature films, original video animations, video games, audio disc releases, and live action episodes.
The main story of the series tells of Shinichi Kudo. Once a prodigal high school detective, he ends up being turned into a child by a mysterious organization and takes on the name Conan Edogawa. With the help of gadgets from a family friend and together with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries by impersonating the detective and other characters.
On a different note, the spin-off series “Meitantei Conan Zero no Tea Time”/ “Detective Conan: Zero’s Tea Time” was previously announced to have new chapters to be released during the next “Detective Conan” hiatus. It was announced Weekly Shonen Sunday and apparently, no new chapters would be published outside of this time.
“Detective Conan: Zero’s Tea Time” is as stated a spin-off manga of the “Detective Conan” series. It is created by Takahiro Arai and was first released in May 2018. The series features character Tōru Amuro as he takes on the life of a triple agent while trying to maintain his different roles.
