Synopsis
This is a tale that begins with a 13-year-old named Rachel and her waking up with no memories. Finding herself trapped in the basement of an abandoned building with no clue to how she ended up here, she begins wandering around, lost and dizzy. Upon ending up in the hands of an insane counselor, she finds herself inexplicably saved by a completely bandaged serial killer named Zack. Following this event, the two form a bond, strengthened by strange, crazy promises as they make their way to escape the building.
The Good
The most fascinating thing that the series has presented so far is that you can’t tell what’s going to happen next. The tendency with horror/psychological is that there is always something that gives an idea of what might happen next. Here, it not only keeps the viewer guessing but it leaves a bigger impact for them as well. It also helps that the characters hold an unexpected and unpredictable note to them. What’s more, the way that the characters and their dynamics are developed is also a plus. Basically, there’s a strong set-up and interesting characters to be found here.
The Bad
While it is nice that the viewer is held in suspense alongside the character, the general concept of the series is easy to see after a while. Basically, with the characters having defeated two bosses with the levels that they have visited. And while it means more interesting characters to come, it also means that there is a pattern for the series as well. For those who are familiar with the game background of the series, they will be familiar with the said pattern of defeating bosses per level. Other than the pattern that the series is following through, there aren’t any large issues to be found so far.
Conclusion
It’s a thriller series that gives a unique concept, different characters and keeps the viewer guessing for the most part. As stated, the only flaw shown so far is that the series will be following a certain pattern in terms of the characters entering into different floors. Still, there is a solid mystery to follow and the horror element takes on a unique note from the usual. In terms of art and music, it is enjoyable in that it follows the theme but also gives something to enjoy as well. Overall, it’s the type of horror series that gives a solid balance of thrill and creepiness.
