Synopsis
Located within a forest, there lies a cafe run by two avian sisters. One day, a businessman named Hirokazu enters through the forest and ends up being brought to the cafe. He then ends up becoming the manager of the Birdhouse Cafe and thus begins his new life helping out the sisters and meeting all kinds of colorful characters.
The Good
The concept of the series is certainly interesting, that’s the first thing that can be said about it. While it doesn’t have the most detailed of designs, it does have a charm and a unique point in terms of the avian designs. It’s interesting to see the variation of the characters and their personalities/type being related to their design. From the simple but cute sisters to the muscled small birds that strangely work there are all kinds of colorful characters to enjoy throughout the series.
Storywise, it’s rather simple but it does well when it comes to world-building. While starts off a bit slow by introducing different avian characters and their quirks it does hold a steady pace in introducing the avian people’s culture and living. Going back to the characters, outside of their fun designs and quirks, there is also some solid development as well.
The Bad
When it comes to the flaws of the series, it all boils down to the preference of the reader. The comedy is rather low-key though, the whole schtick with the three sparrows and their dress-up does a get a bit old as the series goes. With the story, it does have a good world-building but not a whole lot in terms of plot flow. As for the characters, they are fun but they do fall into the general pool of slice-of-life characters.
Conclusion
If you’re into simple stories with charm, this is one series to check out. There are colorful characters and a well-done world-building but there isn’t much to expect in terms of plot. Simply put, it’s a soft series which features cute bird characters and solid friendship between them as they bond over good food. Overall, it’s a series that explores an interesting concept, has charm but may not appeal to everyone.
