Synopsis
This is a tale that tells of the daily lives of four female high school mangaka living in a dormitory.
Anime Thoughts
A series that features a group of cute girls doing cute things isn’t something new, but them being manga artists certainly is. It’s not often that the concept of looking into the work of manga artists is tackled without things getting exaggerated in one way or the other. Given the whole element of the girls being high school students and learning the ropes, it helps in balancing out the story and character development.
With the characters, they started off as rather stereotypical characters given their looks but in the progress of the series, there was a solid expansion on their personalities and dynamics. Still, as cute as the series is, it does hold some predictable points and a repetitive comedy. It does help that there was a light touch of drama to help round out the characters. In the end, it was a cute series that had some solid character development and dynamics with some tiny loose ends here and there.
Manga Thoughts
When compared to the anime, the manga series gives more focus towards the cuteness of the girls and their antics. This is a not a bad route to take, but its rather clear with the 4-panel that it would not work on the character development or deepen the story all that much. What makes the manga good though is how it has cute little details that an anime wouldn’t have room in the anime. Little things like the girls getting into drawinga session over a litter of kittens or them meeting side characters like school friends. It’s not the most prominent of differences but it does set a slightly different tone than the manga.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a series that mainly focuses on the concept of cute girls doing cute things mixed with some fun comedy then the manga version is for you. On the other hand, if you want more focus to be on the characters and their dynamics with one another, then the anime is the way to go. When placed next to each other, the manga and anime do not have the biggest of differences but they do set a different tone from the other. It all lies in the preference really.
