Steve Ditko, ‘Spider-Man’ Co-Creator Passes Away

The comic book industry has lost a great icon as Steve Ditko, the co-creator of the iconic Marvel superhero Spider-Man passed away at on June 29. Ditko was 90 years old.

Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley said in a statement on Saturday that “his legacy will never be forgotten”. C.B. Cebulski, Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said “It’s impossible to put into words the impact that Steve Ditko had not just on comics, but on modern pop culture. With ink and imagination, he thrilled readers with amazing and awe-inspiring adventures. Ditko didn’t just create characters – he built worlds.”

Aside from Spider-Man, he also created other iconic characters in the Marvel franchise like Doctor Strange, Blue Beetle, Squirrel Girl, and Hawk and Dove.

Both Doctor Strange and Spider-Man appear in the anime series Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers. There was also a 1970 Spider-Man manga created Kazumasa Hirai, Kosei Ono, and Ryoichi Ikegami. A Spider-Man tokusatsu series was also made in 1978 by Toei.
