Synopsis
In this world, young witches who turn thirteen summon a guardian “cat” who stays with them and supports them their entire life. Throughout this series of young witches with their cats, there are different characters who learn something different about life from the cat that they summon.
The Good
The first thing that stood out with this series is the different stories and characters to enjoy with each chapter. What’s more, by having it be in one setting and involving a specific group of characters, it feels like with each story the reader is introduced to, the more there is learned about the world and how it works. Other than this, the designs of the cats and the other creatures are rather lovely and stand out with the rather soft art style. It’s a series that’s got a heart to it, and with the way it creates this simple world that involves magic without being overly extravagant with it, it shows a world that you’d happily find yourself in.
The Bad
Being such a simple and warm series, there isn’t much that can be said against it. The only real problem that it has is that it can be rather repetitive in terms of formula. While the stories are lovely in different ways, the idea is largely the same. The girl summons her cat, doesn’t get along with them at first, faces a problem that leads to them learning something about life with their cat and then ends with them meeting a spirit. And lastly, we get a peek at their future in the last frame. Other than this formula, there isn’t anything that stands out as a negative against the series.
Conclusion
It’s a cute fantasy series involving girls learning things about lives along with the help of their cat summons. It’s simple, it’s got heart, and there are different stories to enjoy and explore. While it may get repetitive after a while, the way that it handles its fantasy aspect makes it worth the read. That and the characters have a charm to them, though, a little more exploration on them as a group would be nice as well. Overall it’s a nice little fantasy work that doesn’t go all out but has something to enjoy.
