The Third Season Teaser for A Certain Magical Index TV Anime is Released at Anime Expo

An official teaser trailer has been released for the long-awaited third season of “A Certain Magical Index” and the series’ release has been confirmed for this year.

The teaser is a 60-second video that was screened at the ongoing Anime Expo 2018. In it was a message stating “5 years since the last movie, A Certain Magical INDEX is finally back!!” Titled as “A Certain Magical INDEX III”, the series is set to premiere this October and air on Tokyo MX and other stations.

“A Certain Magical Index” was first released as a light novel series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Kiyotaka Haimura. The series had a total of 24 volumes released and was published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko imprint from April 2004 to October 2010. Followed after this was the manga adaptation by Chuya Kogino. It has been serialized Monthly Shōnen Gangan since May 2007 and is currently running with 20 volumes released.

The anime adaptation of the series was first released in October 2008 and spanned a total of 24 episodes before ending in March 2009. The second season of the anime was aired from October 2010 to April 2011 and also had 24 episodes.

For the third season, director Hiroshi Nishikiori will be making their return along with character designer Yuichi Tanaka and soundtrack composer Maiko Iuchi. Acting as the new series composer for the third series though is Hiroyuki Yoshino, a majorly known voice actor. Also included in the staff is Maiko Iuchi and taking charge of the animation production is J.C.Staff

As for the cast, they will be reprising their roles and include:

Yuka Iguchi as Index
Nobuhiko Okamoto as Accelerator
Rina Satou as Mikoto Misaka
Satoshi Hino as Shiage Hamazura

There is no confirmation for the third season’s story but the main story is set in a world where supernatural abilities are a reality and take focus on a young high school student named Tōma Kamijō. He holds an unusual ability and upon meeting an English nun named Index, it is found that with her, his ability is proven dangerous to other magicians and espers who want to discover the secrets behind him, Index as well as the city.
