Netojū no Susume/Recovery of an MMO Junkie Manga Ends Due to Author's Health

The comedy manga “Netojū no Susume” is officially ending its serialization. According to Comico, after a discussion with creator Rin Kokuyo, it was decided that it would be too difficult for the creator to restart the series due to their health.

“Netojū no Susume” a.k.a. “Recovery of an MMO Junkie" is a comedy work that began as a manga series that was released as a webtoon on the Comico app. The series ran from 2013 to 2015 before a hiatus was announced followed by the current report.

The series gained an anime adaptation in 2017 with Signal MD as the studio and a total of 10 episodes with an OVA running from October to December. The anime was directed by Kazuyoshi Yaginuma, who majorly worked as a key animator and had “Bleach’s” scriptwriter Kazuyuki Fudeyasu as it’s series composer.

The story of the series tells of 30-year-old successful career woman Moriko Morioka. After quitting her long-standing job of over 11 years, she makes the decision to become an elite NEET and find a more fulfilling life. This decision leads her into entering the online MMORPG world of “Fruits de Mer.”Here she takes on a male avatar and becomes the dashing hero “Hayashi.”

However, Moriko didn’t start off as a strong player and had only managed to become truly adept at the game after getting help from a high-level player named Lily. The two befriend each other, Hayashi joins Lily’s guild, @HomeParty, and soon enough Moriko immerses into the game and only comes out her apartment when necessary. One day while out at the convenience store, she ends up bumping into a handsome elite company employee, Yuta Sakurai. This is no chance encounter however as Yuta may have ties with her online life.

In the anime, Moriko Morioka was voiced by Mamiko Noto, the voice behind Ai Enma in “Hell Girl’ and Nodoka Miyazaki in “Negima!.” As for Yuta Sakurai, he was voiced by Takahiro Sakurai, a voice actor who has become known for voicing Arataka Reigen in “Mob Psycho 100.” Their avatar characters Harashi and Lily were voice by Ryouta Suzuki and Reina Ueda respectively.
