Synopsis
Saki is a young girl who aims to become an idol and is in love with her best friend’s brother, Mohiro, a popular male idol. One day she encounters a yakuza which led to her shock, the revelation that her mother was a former magical girl and now the yakuza male, who is, in fact, the mascot behind recruiting her mother wants to recruit her.
While in her denial of the position, she witnesses Mohiro being kidnapped she rushes out to save him. In the end, she agrees to take on the contract of becoming a magical girl. However, rather than turning into a magical girl with a perky costume… she turns into a muscular man wearing a magical girl costume!?
General Impression
The series may seem wacky at first, there has been different interesting twists and points that were explored in the course of the series. With the whole gender change concept, it may be off but it opens a whole lot of ideas in terms of shipping. The series basically brings a shoujo, shounen ai and shoujo ai all at the same time and it really brings out the series. More than the potential pairings though, the parody had its moments though it does get predictable after a while. Basically, it’s got it’s great points and the comedy really depends on the viewer.
Ending Thoughts
The way that the villain was built up during the series, with all the teasing and obvious character shift, the surprise villain, in the end, was pretty much expected. Really, the way that the series spotlighted one character and made him out to be a suspicious character just hammered in that there would be a surprise villain in the end. Still, the ending had some good moments and the goodbye scene between the main characters and the manager gave a sweet note to the episode. Overall, the series managed to have everything tied up in a neat bow for the most part.
Conclusion
It’s the type of series that will leave you questioning a lot of things, but it is also brought a lot of interesting points that made it unique. The plot was a bit predictable along with the comedy, but the overall character development and dynamics were fun. The series may seem off at first, but it brings some pleasant surprises here and there. Basically, it’s the type of series that gives a weird, predictable but fun ride.
