Synopsis
Sumire is a simple high school boy who had simply wanted a cup of ramen for dinner. However, that is not what he gets. When pouring hot water into the bowl, rather than getting a meal, an alien prince pops out instead! Apparently, he is from Planet Cup-Ramen, there, the women are human-sized and the men are three-inch tall. And by pouring hot water on Ranmen and turning him human-sized, Sumire has unintentionally proposed to the prince. Thus begins Sumires new chaotic life involving a persistent prince, other fiancees and more.
The Good
It’s everything you would find in an old comedy shoujo work instead it’s shounen-ai and that’s what makes so fun. The plot is unique and the characters are all colorful and the whole series is just an unexpectedly fun ride. The development between Ranmen and Sumire had its sweet moments but the creativity of the series lied in the aliens and their battles. The creativity of their battles and flow between scenes was rather smooth. Between the action and the romance, the action stood out just a tad more.
The Bad
And that’s where the problem lies. With the manga being so short, it clearly tried to squeeze as much into the story as it could. However, this resulted in the series pretty much going all over the place. This is especially prominent in the final arc of the story, which was rather strange ways to end things, and that’s saying something in the list of wacky and classic manga that this writer has encountered and read. Basically, there was a lot of chaos that went on in the series and it was not always the good type.
Conclusion
It’s an old wacky manga that has a twist to the usual, and those kinds of stories always have something to enjoy. With this series, it was the creativity in its plot and action. There were some sweet moments between Sumire and Ranmen as stated, but it fell under the weight of the chaos of the plot and other characters. There was a lot of potential with the series and the couple and it’s a little disappointing that the romance was not as developed as it could have been. Still, it was an interesting ride, to say the least.
