A live stream program is set to appear on Niconico on June 9 with the staff of the upcoming “Baki” hosting the program. Starting at 9:00 p.m. (8 a.m. EDT), it has been noted that there will be an “unprecedented important announcement” made.
Other than this, there will be new information to be provided about the franchise. The anime will be having its debut this summer in Japan under Netflix and will later be released outside of Japan in fall. Set to have 26 episodes, the series will also be aired on television.
Directing the series is Toshiki Hirano, the director of the “Apocalypse Zero” OAV. He will be working at TMS Entertainment along with Tatsuhiko Urahata, who is also working on the upcoming “Hi Score Girl” series, as the series composer. Acting as the character designer for the series is Fujio Suzuki, the character designer for “The Laughing Salesman NEW.”
Performing the opening theme song “Beastful” is GRANDRODEO while the ending theme song “Resolve” will be performed by Azusa Tadokoro.
For the new series, it will be adapting the “Most Evil Death Row Convicts” arc of Keisuke Itagaki’s “New Grappler Baki: In Search of Our Strongest Hero” manga. Featured in the new anime are underground ring fighters in the no-rules combat environment of death row convicts.
The cast for the five main convicts of the arc is as follows:
Banjou Ginga as Dorian, an American convict skilled in Chinese Kenpo who also knows a form of hypnosis to cloud his opponents’ senses which allows him to defeat them.
Takehito Koyasu as Doyle a.k.a. Hector Doyle, a serial killer, who holds a kinder and more normal side to him.
Kenjiro Tsuda as the Russian Sikorsky, an inhumanly strong person who is able to cut through a person’s flesh using only his knuckles and finger strength.
Chafurin as Speck, a psychotic serial killer with a malevolent sense of humor
Issei Futamata as Yanagi Ryuukou, a Japanese convict who is a practitioner of a special martial art called Way of the Void, and the only one with a known crime.
The main story of the series tells of Baki, a young man who was trained in hopes of becoming a powerful warrior like his father. Even after breaking away from traditional training and heading out to follow the path of his ruthless father’s training and battling multiple opponents, Baki ends up effortlessly beaten by his father.
Now after traveling the world to continue his training, he battles in an underground fighting arena where he fights some of the most powerful fighters of all styles of martial arts and hones his skills.
