A Spinoff Manga for Cells at Work! Releases in June

Launching in Kodansha’s Morning magazine and the Weekly D Morning digital manga magazine on June 7 is a spinoff manga titled “Hataraku Saibō BLACK”. Announced on the official website of the former magazine, a visual for the series has also been revealed.

Written by Shigemitsu Harada and illustrated by Issei Hatsuyoshi, the spin-off will be supervised by original manga creator Akane Shimizu is supervising the work. With the visual, the characters illustrated depict a certain condition of a cell. The red blood cell on the right is carrying oxygen in a healthy body on the right. As for the cell on the right, they’re someone who struggles to work inside the body of someone who drinks too much, smokes, and has high stress and cholesterol.

As for the story of the spinoff, it will be telling of cells working in a “black” environment, which equals a human body in poor health. For this story it is a person who drinks and eats too much, has insufficient physical activity, and has high stress. After the release of the spinoff, there will be a first compiled book volume will be shipped in Japan on July 9.

The original manga was first serialized in March 2015 in Kodansha’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Sirius. Currently, there are five volumes for the series. The story of the series takes a look into anthropomorphized cells of a human body and features a red blood cell as the main protagonist.

An anime adaptation of the series is set to debut in July. Directing the work is Kenichi Suzuki, the series director behind, “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures”. Taking charge of animation production is David Production. Yuuki Kakihara, who is known for having worked on the “Persona 4: The Animation”, will be working as the series composer.
