Synopsis
Kawai Karen has finally achieved her dream of becoming a nursery teacher. However, with her having an “evil-looking” face, she has more children crying rather than smiling. On the other hand, Hosaka Taihei, while rather serious, is highly popular with the children. The two are as different as can be, but to Kawai’s shock, Hosaka proposes?!
The Good
There are all kinds of stories featuring males with intimidating features but good personalities, but females? That’s a whole different spectrum. Usually, when it comes to intimidating females, it’s not really in their features but rather the atmosphere that they give off. Having a female character that actually has unconventional looks and struggles with it is rather refreshing. That and the fact that she’s trying to be a nursery teacher is a great aspect of the series.
While Hosaka in appearance, doesn’t seem all that different, in terms of personality, he makes for a nice contrast to Kawai. From how blunt he is to how he romances Kawai, he’s just a fun character for the series. However, as fun characters are, the way that their relationship developed throughout the series was the biggest highlight. Added to the way the way that the story connects the two’s relationship to the problem that they face with the kids really ties in the story together.
The Bad
With the way that the premise was set, it was made clear that the romance would be rather rushed. And as nice as the development of Kawai and Hosaka’s relationship is, it could have been stretched out more. It would have been nice to have at least one chapter on them alone without any connection to the nursery and how they are as a couple. The way that it stretched out the character doubts was a bit of a hit or miss. The same can be said about the stories of the children’s problems and how the teachers help them.
Conclusion
It’s unconventional and cute but is overall rather rushed. With the characters, they have some nice development given to them but the relationship between them is what really brings them out. There are some miss points with the series such as how some parts could have been stretched out or how the children’s stories could have been different. Overall though, this is a rather sweet story with refreshing characters.
