Coming this October is the anime adaptation of historical fantasy light novel series “Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc to Renkin no Kishi” a.k.a. “Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemy Knights”. Featuring an alternative version of the life of Joan of Arc in France during the Hundred Years’ War in 15th century France, cast and staff details have already been confirmed.
The story of the upcoming series takes focus on a nobleman named Montmorency. He is the son of a French nobleman who studies to be an alchemist knight at an academy in Paris. However he finds himself driven out of school as in the aftermath of the Battle of Agincourt and the fall of Paris, the school for alchemists ended up being closed. Now with his schooling upturned, Montmorency finds himself on the run and ends up meeting a mysterious village girl named Jeanne.
Playing the role of Montmorency is the voice behind vice-captain Mutsumu Hachiouji in “All Out!”, Ryōta Ōsaka .
Yuko Ono, who is currently playing a role in “Magical Girl Site” as Aya Asagiri, voices as Jeanne d’ Arc.
Other roles to be found in the series include:
Hisako Tojo as Astaroth.
Manami Numakura as Richemont.
Saori Ōnishi as Charlotte.
Yūki Takada as Phillip.
Shizuka Ishigami as La Hire.
As for the staff, Shin Itagaki, who previously worked on 2016 and 2017 installations of “Berserker”, will be acting as director of the production. Working on the series composition is Ryunosuke Kingetsu, the writer behind “Samurai Girls”.
Taking charge of the character designs for the anime is Jouji Sawada, a known animation director and key animator for a variety of series including, “Yo-kai Watch” and “The Prince of Tennis”. For the sound and music, Ryousuke Kingetsu will be acting as sound director while Taku Iwasaki will be working on the music composition. The production of the series will be falling under AXsiZ.
“Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc to Renkin no Kishi” as stated, is based on a history fantasy light novel series. It was written by Mikage Kasuga and illustrated by Tomari Meron and has been under the publication of Shueisha since August 2015 under their Dash X Bunko imprint.
Currently four volumes and one prequel volume had been published for the light novel series. As of February 28, 2018 a manga series titled “Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc to Hyakunen Sensō no Himitsu” has been released on Shueisha’s Dash X Comic website with art by Yagi Shinba and Hirafumi.
