What We See so Far - "Pashiri na Boku to Koi suru Banchou-san"

Synopsis

Unoki-kun has been bullied ever since he was in elementary and has long developed a rather negative outlook on a lot of things. Entering into high school he finds himself confronted by top delinquent Toramaru-san who tells him “Be mine:”. While Unoki believed that the statement meant that he would become the delinquent’s errand boy though, the truth is far from what he thinks. The truth is that when Toramaru had confronted him, she was actually trying to confess her feelings, and now she thinks that the two of them are dating. Thus begins a tale of misunderstandings and comedy.

The Good

Out of everything that the series has to offer, from the comedy to the character dynamics, it is Unoki’s character portrayal that has made the series a fun read so far. True, he’s not the greatest character, but he does have some interesting points to him in that he’s not purely a coward with a highly negative perspective on things. That and the way that he has a look that is usually meant for delinquent type characters is a nice bit of contrast as well.

Then there is Toramaru-san. The idea of a tough girl having a secret soft side and not being able to express herself all that well has been done before. What makes it interesting here is how it is contrasted with Unoki’s perspective of certain scenarios such as walking to school together. It may seem like small things but the way the story plays out the difference in how the two see their time together makes for some solid comedy. On another note, the way that the expressions vary and show a different look for the series gives a unique touch for the series.
The Bad

The only real thing that can be said against the series so far is that the only real thing that makes it different is the whole misunderstanding between Unoki-kun and Toramaru-san. For the most part, it has the typical high school scenes you would expect for a couple. Other than that there is the ending of the third chapter to note one. If this were a typical shoujo, the next part may be predictable but with this, it’s a 50/50 chance at best.

Conclusion

The characters are fun, the way that the art portrays a variety of expressions for the characters makes for a great visual play and the overall contrast is pretty good. These are pretty much the biggest highlights of the series given how short the chapters are. As stated, there isn’t much to be said against the series. It’s simple but fun in how it portrays its characters and maintains its comedy.
