A new update has been released for the Japanese Box Office top ten ranking list with new details on both new and old films for the list.
The latest film to drop from the ranks is “Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima” a.k.a. “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island”. The 38th film of the Doraemon franchise had earned a total of 33,582,300 yen (about US$306,200) from Friday to Sunday before it fell off the top 10 charts in its ninth week. Overall the film has earned 5,137,144,700 yen (about US$46.84 million).
Falling from #5 to #7 is the live-action film “Inuyashiki”. Adapted from the manga of the same name by Hiroya Oku, the film is expected to surpass 1 billion yen (about US$9.21 million) at the box office. Currently, the film has earned a total of 348,434,800 yen (about US$3.17 million).
The 26th Crayon Shin-chan film “Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Bakumori! Kung-Fu Boys: Ramen Tairan”/“Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Bakumori! Kung-Fu Boys Ramen Rebellion” goes from #3 to #4 in the box office. In its opening weekend, the kung-fu action film had sold 315,000 tickets to earn 367 million yen (about US$3.42 million). Currently, the film has earned a total of 880,935,200 yen (about US$8.03 million) and is expected to earn more than 1.6 billion yen (about US$14.9 million).
Placing itself at #8 in its opening weekend is the “Marmalade Boy” live-action film. The adaptation of Wataru Yoshizumi’s was released on Friday and screened on 293 screens.
Also released on Friday was the live-action film adaptation of Robico’s manga, “My Little Monster” otherwise known as “Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun”. It was screened on 287 screens and earned a place at #6.
Remaining #1 for its third weekend now is the 22nd film in the Detective Conan series, “Meitantei Conan Zero no Shikkōnin”/“Detective Conan: Zero’s Executioner”. In its first three days if screening, the film sold a total of 1,289,000 tickets and had earned 1.67 billion yen (about US$15.6 million). As of May 1, the film has reached a total of 3.74 million tickets and earned 4.8 billion yen. At the rate of the film’s success, it is predicted that the film will possibly be the series’ sixth consecutive film to break the franchise’s previous box-office record.
Outside of the anime and live-action films, the “Avengers: Infinity Wars” film had made its debut in Japan on Friday. Having sold a total of sold 437,000 tickets and earning 672 million yen (about US$6.13 million) the film ranks at #2.
On another note, the film adaptation of Strike Tanaka’s Servamp manga, “Gekijōban Servamp: Alice in the Garden” dropped from the top five of the mini-theater rankings in its fourth weekend.
