General Impression: Hakumei to Mikochi

Synopsis

Set in a world where there exists beings who are no more than a few inches high. In this story the focus goes to two young girls named Hakumei and Mikochi. This a take into their lives a they go through different daily adventures from riding bugs to having leaves for umbrellas, this a look into a new and different world through the lives of two friends.

First Impression

With how short and simple the episode is, there wasn’t much negative points to be found with it. The art and style is cute, especially on the part of the characters and the setting. Clearly there was a lot of thought placed into the design of things and how the characters would work around things that you can’t help but appreciate how you are pretty much introduced to a whole new world.

The only problem however is that the exposition work on the series and its setting could have used some work. The dynamics are interesting, but it would have been nice to at least get a short introduction to certain workings such as the animal relations. Being an anime that holds the slice of life genre however, there isn’t much to be expected in terms of exciting moments or high drama.

General Impression

Unique yet rustic is the best way to describe what the series has been giving so far. As stated, the series pretty much enters the viewer into an adorable new world with an adorable look to it. The way that each area is distinct from the other and had clear thought placed into it is rather nice and brings out the rather cute design of the characters, a design that you don’t see all that often as well.

On the note of the characters, that is the one of the bigger to be found in the series that can be considered as somewhat major. With each episode we learn the different stories of side characters and how they relate to Hakumei and Mikochi, but it would be nice to see some personal development on them. Oh, sure, there were one or two episodes that did a bit on that, but it other than showing that there is depth to Hakumei, there isn’t much on their character development.

Another high point of the series is the fantasy work it manages to slip into the story. It’s small and that show much impact, but for the most part, it added a nice touch for the series. Another issue with the series though is that the story seems to bounce around doesn’t really go anywhere but on the other hand, that’s pretty much expected given the slice-of-life tag the series holds.

Conclusion

Overall, the series is a cute work that explores a new world mixed in with some interesting characters and a dash of fantasy. There could have been more explained and explored with the setting and the main characters but for the most part the series gives a nice and mellow tone to itself. It has interesting camera work and the way that it manages to slip more than one story in an episode makes for a nice look in different perspectives.
