Coming on April 25 is the shipment of the “Godzilla Project Mechagodzilla novel”. The release of the novel will be marking the upcoming theatrical release of “Godzilla: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi” a.k.a. “Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle”, the second film in the trilogy.
“Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle” as stated is the second film of the Godzilla anime film trilogy; it is set to debut on May 18 in Japan and will be featuring a “Godzilla Earth vs. Mechagodzilla” battle. The previous film “Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters”/”Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei” was released in Japan on November 7 and has gained a worldwide streaming on Netflix as of January 7.
With the novel, it is the sequel to the prequel novel that marked the first film of the trilogy and was shipped on October 25. Like with the first novel, Renji Oki will be making his return as the writer along the writer of the film Gen Urobuchi to work as the supervisor of the novel.
The tale of the novel features Mechagodzilla and questions including “Why did mankind have to throw away Earth?” and “What did mankind see the day before the destruction of Earth?” like with the first novel.
“Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle” takes place after the events of “Planet of Monsters” where most of humanity have perished under the hand of Godzilla. The tale of this film takes focus on Haruo Sakaki. While escaping from a new breed of monster, dubbed “Godzilla Earth”, he is saved by Miana, a girl belonging to an indigenous tribe called the “Houtua”, descendants of the humans left behind.
The tribe informs Haruo that their god had been destroyed by Godzilla and had left behind eggs. While the group discusses over the egg, Galu Gu, the leader of the Bilusaludo, discovers that the Houtua’s spears are sourced from the “nanometal.” A material that had been developed in the 21st century as an “anti-Godzilla” killer weapon before it was destroyed before it could be activated in the form of a “Mecha-Godzilla.” Now with the discovery of the base substance, there is now proof that the manufacturing plant can still be used.
